Unearthing the Head Resonance for Singing High Notes
Head resonance is naturally produced in the human body and often used unconsciously. But because of heedlessness, incorrect method, ignorance and unbreakable habits it is lost and is hardly ever regained. In time they simply use their mouth and pharynx resonances for singing high notes. Only with the ultimate sacrifice of time, patience and practice you can recover it. Whether your aim is to learn how to sing high notes or just enjoy singing it is very important to discover the head resonance to be efficient in your vocal productions.
How to unearth the head resonance
Before you go unearthing the head resonance it is important to know why you don’t have a head resonance and then analyze it. This will be a correct approach while learning how to sing high notes.
Basically there are three reasons for the lack of head resonance.
- The source of your voice is not good. Sound is generated due to the vibrations of the vocal cord. A strong, fit and healthy vocal cord is the secret of efficient production of sound. If you have any hereditary or postnatal vocal cord problems it will critically affect the sound generated.
- When the air flowing through the cavities is restricted. This happens when the organs that produce voice are taut and tensed resulting in the stiffening of the pathway muscles of the organs. The mouth cavity, tongue, throat, upper and lower jaws and neck muscles are the major organs responsible for voice production. Sometimes due to long formed habits, singers make their voice producing organs to be muscle-tensed. This habit is the main reason for not being able to apply the head resonance efficiently.
- Not having breath support. When a singer is not employing the correct breathing method it leads to lack of breath support. The production of head resonance mainly depends on breath support.
Once you have found the root cause for the lack of resonance, it becomes easier to find the solution for the problem. Using treatment or meticulously following the correct method can enable you to unearth the head resonance and hold it.
If your lack of resonance is due to the first reason then proper medical treatments can be employed to solve the problem.
If the lack of head resonance is due to the muscle tension in your voice producing organs then exercising those organs with proper guidance can be a great help. This will teach you to relax the corresponding organs when singing under normal conditions. Patience and practice will help you achieve this.
If you find that lack of breathing support affects your head resonance then proper guidance from a voice teacher or vocal coach can solve your problem. A voice teacher or vocal coach can teach you the correct method to achieve breath support while singing, particularly while singing high notes.
